Like other cities in North Africa, B\u00e9jaia has a rich historical heritage. It served as a beacon and a safe haven for vessels that, over time, docked along its shores. Its strategic location and vast bay in the middle of the western Mediterranean, combined with the presence of a river supporting agricultural cultivation, were significant assets for its development. This dual advantage has characterized the city from ancient times to the present day and has shaped its future. The Soummam Valley, acting as a vital lifeline, has always nourished the city by providing products from the hinterland. Yet, it was undoubtedly human ingenuity that played a decisive role in the creation of the settlement. When the Andalusian geographer Al-Bakri completed his book describing Africa, mentioning the small port of B\u00e9jaia frequented by Andalusian sailors, the city received a new \u201cbirth certificate\u201d that would elevate it to the status of a regional capital.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The city then developed all the activities characteristic of a major metropolis: an important political center that housed two dynasties (the Hammadid and Hafsid), reflected in architecture through the construction of imposing walls, fortresses, numerous buildings, and palace gardens. As a commercial port in the Mediterranean, the city had a large arsenal for building a merchant fleet and a war fleet. Ships from various countries docked there to unload their goods. Serving as an intellectual and religious hub across the Maghreb and the Mediterranean, the city was home to colleges that trained scholars in all disciplines, who would later disseminate their knowledge in major cities such as Tlemcen, Tunis, Fez, C\u00f3rdoba, Granada, Murcia, Pisa, Cairo, and Damascus.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t

Histoire Du Port Acceuil – Histoire Du Port Transformations et D\u00e9veloppements au Fil des Si\u00e8cles Histoire du Port B\u00e9jaia, \u00e0 l\u2019instar des autres villes d\u2019Afrique du nord, poss\u00e8de un patrimoine historique important. Elle fut un phare et un havre d\u2019accueil pour les embarcations qui, au fil du temps, ont accost\u00e9 sur ses rivages. Sa position et son immense baie au milieu du bassin occidental de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e, auxquelles il faut ajouter la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019une rivi\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9rant des cultures vivri\u00e8res, furent des atouts s\u00e9rieux pour son d\u00e9veloppement. Cette double position a caract\u00e9ris\u00e9 la ville depuis la nuit des temps jusqu\u2019\u00e0 nos jours et a d\u00e9termin\u00e9 son avenir. Le cordon ombilical que constitue la vall\u00e9e de la Soummam l\u2019a de tout temps irrigu\u00e9e en lui fournissant les produits de l\u2019arri\u00e8re-pays. Mais ind\u00e9niable fut le g\u00e9nie de l\u2019homme qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9terminant dans la cr\u00e9ation de l\u2019agglom\u00e9ration. Au moment o\u00f9 le g\u00e9ographe andalou Al-Bakri termine son livre sur la description de l\u2019Afrique en signalant le petit port de B\u00e9jaia, fr\u00e9quent\u00e9 par des marins andalous, la ville recevait un nouvel acte de naissance qui allait faire d\u2019elle une capitale de niveau r\u00e9gional. La ville d\u00e9veloppe alors toutes les activit\u00e9s inh\u00e9rentes \u00e0 une grande m\u00e9tropole\u00a0: p\u00f4le politique important abritant deux dynasties (la hammadite et la hafside) et qui se refl\u00e8te dans le domaine de l\u2019architecture par la construction de remparts imposants et de forteresses ainsi que de nombreux \u00e9difices et jardins palatiaux. Port marchand de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e, la ville \u00e9tait dot\u00e9e d\u2019un grand arsenal pour la construction d\u2019une marine marchande et d\u2019une flotte de guerre. Des bateaux de plusieurs pays y accostaient pour d\u00e9charger leurs produits.
